See the complete list of 43 recalled peanut and nut butters here. The list includes unit UPCs and “Best By Date” ranges to watch out for.  The possible contamination was discovered during a routine FDA testing and after four illnesses with possiby ties to the recall were reported. Symptoms of salmonella include fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In more serious, rare cases, salmonella spreads through the intestines and blood stream and throughout the body, prompting an emergency situation. Young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems are the most likely to have severe infections. Contact your doctors if you are showing symptoms. Consumers are urged to check their pantries for possibly contaminated items and can call nSpired Natural Foods at 1-800-937-7008 for a replacement, refund, or general inquiries.  The best way to ensure you won’t be affected by a recall is by making your own peanut butter. Our Nickel Pincher, Jean Nick, offers us her homemade peanut butter recipe: Simple Nothing-but-Peanuts Peanut ButterSimple, delectable, ridiculously easy, you may never buy store-bought peanut butter again after making this homemade version! Makes about 1 cup of peanut butter Ingredients:1½ cups organic peanutsPinch salt (optional) Directions:1. Place peanuts in your food processor or blender and blend on high for 3 to 5 minutes. They will make an awful racket for a few seconds and then progress through chopped peanuts to a fine meal to a ball that whops around and eventually subsides into a grainy butter and, if you blend it long enough, a quite smooth one. A couple of times during blending, use a rubber spatula to push down what gets stuck to the sides of the bowl. 2. When it as smooth as you like (I like mine with some texture), taste and add salt if desired, pulsing to blend in the salt. Scoop into a glass jar with a lid, and store covered for up to two to three months at room temperature or twice that long in the fridge.
