That’s where a new crop of how-the-hell-do-they-make-milk-out-of-that beverages comes in. Here’s what you need to know about the five newest non-dairy concoctions on the market.   Banana MilkTaste and texture: Like a banana smoothie you’re too lazy to make from scratch—we’re serious, folks. The pro: This is basically banana puree mixed with organic soymilk (and flaxseed oil and vitamins), so you’re getting 5 grams of complete protein per cup, along with omega-3s, potassium, and other nutrients not found in dairy milk. The con: It’s also pretty sugary at 18 grams per cup.Try: Bananawave Bananamilk Hazelnut MilkTaste and texture: Like thinned out Nutella. The pros: It’s thicker than almond milk, which is a good thing in our opinion. Plus, hazelnuts have more folate than any other tree nut.The con: Pacific Foods is the only big brand making hazelnut milk right now, and the company hasn’t yet developed an unsweetened version, so you’re stuck with super sweet Chocolate (15 g sugar per cup) or Original (14 g sugar per cup). It also has a slim 2 g protein per cup.Try: Pacific Foods Hazelnut Non-Dairy Beverage Original MORE: Is This Soy-Free Meat the New Tofu Alternative? Cashew MilkTaste and texture: One of the mildest-tasting alt milks out there: Think toasted nut with a hint of salt. It’s just as creamy as real milk, too.The pro: The unsweetened version has 0 g sugar and only 25 calories per cup—the lowest we’ve seen of any alt milk on the market.  The con: Like its almond milk brethren, cashew milk doesn’t exactly stick to your ribs. It has less than 1 gram of protein per cup.Try: Silk Unsweetened Cashewmilk MORE: Should You Be Drinking Camel’s Milk? Flax MilkTaste and texture: A hint of flaxseed (duh) with a super-thin consistency—almost like water. The pro: It delivers 1,200 mg of omega-3 fatty acids per serving. The con: Like so many alt milks, it doesn’t pack enough protein or fat to really fill you up, but at least one brand, Good Karma, makes a version that’s fortified with pea protein isolate for 5 grams of protein per cup.Try: Good Karma Protein + Flaxmilk Original Quinoa MilkTaste and texture: Like starchy water in which you have soaked quinoa for many hours. Plus a slightly bitter aftertaste. The pro: It’s great for people who need to avoid common allergens, since there’sno nuts, dairy, soy, or gluten in here. The con: The taste might be a tough sell for milk-lovers, and like others here, it’s slim on protein, with just 2 g per cup.Try: Suzie’s Unsweetened Quinoamilk Beverage
