The Link Between Colon Cancer And Diet [Reuters] Another reason to steer clear of junk food: Researchers reporting in the journal Cancer have found a link between certain types of colon cancer and a diet heavy on less-than-healthy items. In particular, the study looked at individuals with Lynch syndrome, a genetic disorder that predisposes sufferers to colon cancer and is thought to afflict 1 in 660 people. Study participants who regularly consumed fried items, soda, and fast food were twice as likely to develop colon tumors compared to peers who ate a more nutritious diet.
