Tobacco Companies To Admit Deceit [The Huffington Post] It shouldn’t be surprising that cigarettes are terrible for your health—and that tobacco companies haven’t exactly been keen to admit it. Now, they’re gonna have to: A federal judge has ordered tobacco companies to publish statements confessing that they lied to the public about the health hazards of cigarettes. Those statements, as per the ruling, will include information like the fact “that smoking kills more people than murder, AIDS, suicide, drugs, car crashes, and alcohol combined.” Yeesh. Still a smoker? Remind yourself of just how bad that vice is…and consider quitting once and for all. A Genetic Test For Breast Cancer? [Los Angeles Times] Genetic tests are rapidly becoming valuable tools to improve human health; helping doctors predict the likelihood of illnesses and helping patients take preventive steps. Now, researchers suspect they’ve isolated two genes that may determine whether a specific type of small breast tumor will develop into full-blown cancer. The tumor, called a ductal carcinoma in-situ, will progress into cancer in about 50% of patients…so figuring out who those patients are, ahead of time, has lifesaving implications. Or maybe you just love hot sauce so much, you want to rub it all over your lips all the time. So goes the logic behind a new Sriracha-flavored lip balm, retailing for $3.99, that promises to “make you constantly hungry for fried rice or teriyaki.” Yum?
